Peru - Shalom
|
It was decided at the last Kirk Session that we should support an overseas mission project with Tearfund's Connected Church. This will run in much the same way as with the World Vision project in Cambodia. We have pledged to raise £1000 a year to support a project called Shalom. Shalom has a vision to see people and communities transformed by God's grace and love. It works with a network of about 30 local Pastors in south-east Peru, helping them amd their churches to get excited about integral mission, bringing physical and spiritual help to people in an area that has significant levels of poverty and is at risk of environmental disaster. Objectives of project In Puno and Apurimac region of south-east Peru, people living in poverty are at risk of disasters caused by extreme climate conditions. Shalom not only provides emergency relief but also mobilises local churches to find achievable solutions and reduce risks. Key Activities Training Pastors Mobilising Churches Disaster Mitigation Advocacy We hope over the year to have some events to help raise the £1000 but every one can begin now by saving pennies (or any coin) making marmalade to sell etc. Use your talents and imagination to help this worth while cause.
