Rev Iain Goring

 Iain M Goring writes:

I was born in Edinburgh though my Primary School years were spent in Carluke in Lanarkshire where my father was minister of St John’s Parish Church of Scotland.  Just as I was about to go to High School we moved to Dunfermline which was home for me until I left school and started at Edinburgh University studying social science.  After one year in the Civil Service in London, I also felt a call to ministry and returned to Scotland to do a further 3 years at New College, Edinburgh.  After my studies were completed,  I started a 2 year assistantship in St Luke’s Milngavie.  During that time Janet and I were married, and in 1977 we moved to my first charge which was Lochwood Church in Easterhouse.  That was home for 8 years and it was while we were in Glasgow that our three children were born – Steven, Sally and Colin.  1985 was the year we moved from Glasgow to Callander and I became the first minister of Callander Kirk – a new charge formed by the union of the previous two congregations.  Callander was home for 18 years but by the end of that time our family had moved on to other things and it felt that it was the right time for me to consider a move also.  Interim Ministry appealed to me as a different kind of ministry with a different focus to it and so that was the door I pushed.  Since 2003, I have had 4 Interim Ministry appointments: The United Church of Bute, The United Parish of Carstairs and Carstairs Junction, Holytown linked with Wrangholm Kirk, New Stevenson and Castlemilk East linked with Castlemilk West.  For the first 5 years Janet was teaching and I worked away from home, but since then we have been able to travel together to the places I have be appointed.
